Born in Fondi, Italy, Lou Marchetti emigrated to the streets of New York
City. His dream to become an artist became reality with his acceptance
to the Art Students' League where he studied under such renowned artists
as: Robert B. Hale, Jean Liberte, Frank McNulty and Frank Reilly, who
was his mentor.

In the 1950's Marchetti's talents found a ready market in the commercial
area with his illustrations appearing in the popular magazines of the
era -- LOOK, LIFE, TRUE, and THE Saturday EVENING POST. The portrait of Marilyn Monroe was done in 1974 for TRUE FOR MEN. This was in the magazine with an article by Earl Wilson called: MARILYN MONROE AND THE KENNEDY BROTHERS, excerpted from Earl Wilson's book SHOW BUSINESS LAID BARE, Putnum & Sons. It was however, in the field of paperback covers, working with the giants of the
industry, Avon, Ballantine, Pocket Books, Dell Warner, Popular Library
and Fawcett Publishing that Lou Marchetti's talents became best known.
This field, more than any other commercial area allowed this artist to
use his full creativity.

Towards the end of his life he retired from commercial illustration and
in a sense, returned to his roots and devoted most of his time to
painting what he loved most, the landscapes of Southern Italy, where he
was born.

Some of his fine art has been shown in such galleries as The Fowler
Gallery, Joan Hodgell Gallery, Bryan Galleries, J. Lawrence Gallery and
the Cavalier Gallery.
